How to Clean a Dishwasher

In order for a dishwasher to perform its duties properly, it is necessary not only to observe the rules of operation, but also to take regular care of the equipment. Otherwise, you may encounter troubles such as the smell of must, fatty deposits and mould. And in particularly neglected cases – with the breakdown of the equipment itself.

All about how to clean the dishwasher at home and extend its life, you will learn from our proposed article. We’ve described in detail the ways, steps, and recommended products, like dishwasher cleaner, to take care of your dishwasher and listed some tried and tested products. With our advice, you will eliminate any problems with your machine.

Mechanical cleaning steps

Although many modern dishwashers have a self-cleaning function, this does not save you from periodically washing the filters and other machine elements.

And even professional care products may not be enough when it comes to clogging or operating in hard water. Therefore, the key to a perfect dishwasher is comprehensive and timely care.

Flushing the drain and fill filter

On the drain of any dishwasher there is a multilayer filter, whose task – to prevent clogging the flow with pieces of food and other garbage.

But even if you diligently follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and wipe the dishes with wipes before each load to remove food scraps, fat or hard water can cause the appliance to stop without completing the full wash cycle.

To get to the filter, proceed as follows:

  • Disconnect the dishwasher.
  • Remove the bottom basket, collect the remaining water at the bottom of the appliance with a sponge.
  • In the lower part of the case next to the sprayer we find a round hollow – in it there is a filter, which consists of a metal membrane for fine cleaning, a plastic glass with large holes and an inner mesh.
  • In the new dishwashers, this element can be easily removed by simply pulling it up or unscrewing it counterclockwise. But in models older than 7-10 years you may need a screwdriver, pliers and other handy tools from your home master’s arsenal.
  • Remove water with a sponge from the filter opening itself and inspect the niche for contaminants – if any solid waste particles get through the filter protection, they could damage or break the pump.
  • To make sure that the pump impeller is working properly, you can unscrew the self-tapping screwdriver, remove the protective strip and carefully turn the blades. If they rotate easily and no foreign objects are found, they can be reassembled. Otherwise, you will have to disassemble the pump structure.
  • All parts are then cleaned of debris and washed with warm water and any grease solvent. If the filter has not been cleaned for a long time, the mesh cells are clogged or the glass is covered with limescale, you can soak these elements for a couple of hours in a solution of vinegar, citric acid or spray the dishwasher.

Although the exit filter is the most popular place for clogging, a comprehensive mechanical cleaning of the dishwasher does not prevent you from checking the condition of the fence hose. Sand, rust and salt particles may accumulate here.

To clean the fill in the dishwasher, disconnect the filler hose (and at the same time rinse it). There must be two filters inside: one immediately behind the T-crane and one at the inlet of the appliance itself.

Both grids are removed and rinsed with warm water. If they are damaged or severely clogged, they can be replaced with new ones – such flowers are inexpensive. After checking, all filters are collected in the reverse order.

Checking and cleaning the sprinklers

Another problem element that can disable a dishwasher is the spraying system. Although the water from the hose is supplied already cleaned of coarse impurities, fine particles of sand and calcium salt can easily pass through the inlet filter cells.

In addition, water with high stiffness can disable the sealing gum on the rotating rocker arms, so it is advisable to inspect them at least once a month.

The principle of cleaning the sprayers:

  • Take out the upper basket together with the rocker arm attached to it.
  • Bend out the latches and remove the sprinkler blades.
  • Take out the bottom basket and remove the bottom bracket – normally, just turn the bracket counterclockwise and pull it up while holding the part in the middle.
  • Inspect the condition of the seals (replace if necessary).
  • Flush the blades under running water, clean the nozzles and connectors.
  • Reassemble the system and make sure that the sprinklers rotate without interference or force.

The rocker arm fasteners may vary from model to model, so check the instructions before the first cleaning to make sure you do not accidentally break the latches.

How to make a Steadicam yourself

A camera stabilizer is an indispensable tool in the arsenal of any videographer. We are going to provide you with instructions on how to make the simplest steadicam using parts from the nearest plumbing store.

Necessary components:

  • three plumbing pipes with a diameter of 20 mm (two short ones, one more authentic);
  • T-fitting with a hole diameter of 20 mm;
  • one screw 1 / 4-20 × 1”;
  • two nuts 1 / 4-20;
  • two plugs for pipes with a diameter of 20 mm;
  • flange with a hole diameter of 20 mm;
  • wood screws for the flange;
  • PVC pipe with a diameter of 25 mm and about 15 cm in length;
  • wide adhesive tape;
  • black paint.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to make it without leaving home, only if you have your own carpentry workshop. You can ask friends for help working with metal products, or rent the necessary equipment.

Necessary equipment:

  • Miter saw;
  • band-saw;
  • grinding machine.

Step one: Stabilizer Base

First you need to connect the three pipes by screwing them to the fitting as shown in the photo. Close the pipe perpendicular to the others with a plug, and then attach the flange to the base of the stabilizer.

Step Two: Tripod Connector

Make a hole for the 20 mm screw in the remaining plug. Screw the screw in with the head inward, attach two nuts on the back. Fix the screw with one, do not fix the other: you will need it to fix the camera. Fasten the plug to the pipe.

Step Three: Stabilizer Holder

Cut a part of the PVC pipe 10-15 cm long, and then make a longitudinal cut exactly in the middle with a band saw. Repeat the process with the resulting crop. As a result, you will have four slightly bent plates, you will need three of them. Run the PVC plates on the grinder, get rid of burrs and grind the corners as shown in the photos.

Place the PVC pieces on a tape. Cut the peeling edges of the tape on three sides, leave one to secure the holder to the stabilizer body.

Step Four: Final Touch

Give a more pleasant look to your product from plumbing pipes. Black paint is perfect for these purposes. Before spraying, be sure to remove the steadicam holder and tripod screw. Screw the flange to the wood block: this is necessary to secure the load at the base of the stabilizer.

Step Five: Preparing for the Shooting

The resulting stabilizer compensates for the difference in height in the horizontal plane, but with the camera pointing up or down, our steadicam is powerless. Therefore, it is necessary to balance the weight by attaching the load to a wooden base. The usual building brick will do.

Our stabilizer is ready for shooting. If the process above is too difficult for you, you can consider purchasing any stabilizer from list.

Boxing at home

Recently, people are increasingly choosing home workouts. This article will focus on the correct setting of boxing training at home.

We immediately want to declare that in no case do we urge anyone to train independently, and mastering a sport such as boxing is best under the guidance of an experienced coach. This is especially true for beginners who will learn the basics in the boxing gym much faster.

However, for those of you who already have boxing skills and want to improve them outside the gym, this article will be very useful, since it will discuss the issues of equipping the home gym for boxing and martial arts, as well as the basics of the training process. So, let’s begin:

What do you need for boxing at home?

Here is the list of equipment and accessories you will need:

1. Of course, sportswear – boxing shorts, shirts and special boxing training shoes.

2. Boxing bandages. Keep your weapon (I mean your hand) protected. When working on shells, sparring always bandages your wrists! For beginners, boxing bandages, both from elastane and classic, from cotton, are suitable. It all depends on your personal preferences.

3. Bag gloves. They are different from training boxing gloves and are specially designed to protect your hands when working on heavy bags and at the same time to help you “deliver” the blow with a fully formed (closed) fist.

4. Punching bag. You can choose any bag that suits you according to various parameters. For more details, read our detailed instructions.

5. Mirror. Yes, mirror. It is ideal for such a basic and important exercise as shadow boxing. Also, with its help, you can practice air strikes and dives / slopes, monitoring the correct movement. Some coaches advise to hit in their reflection as in the opponent, aiming, for example, in the chin.

This list is suitable for individual boxing training. However, if you manage to find a training partner, let it be a relative or a friend (this will significantly expand the possibilities for training), then additional equipment will be required:

  • 1. Focus gloves. Your partner will hold them, and you inflict single strikes and combinations in movement.
  • 2. Boxing headguard. 80% of boxing success is training and light sparring. So a reliable boxing head guard will protect your head and face from unnecessary injuries.
  • 3. Mouthpiece (mouth guard). It will protect the teeth from strong blows of the opponent.
  • 4. 2 pairs of training boxing gloves. You can read our article about the right choice of gloves for boxing.
  • 5. Optional equipment – medical ball, speed bag, boxing timer, jump rope.

And now, let’s talk about 5 steps that will easily help you learn boxing at home.

Step One: Create Your Training Space

For boxing at home, you need a free area of about 3 * 3 meters for hanging a boxing bag. If the conditions do not allow the bag to be suspended, a water-filling dummy will suit you.

Step Two: Exercise regularly at the same time without missing workouts

This helps to quickly develop the necessary skills. For example, do exercises on movement 2-3 times a week. Learn the theory first – from a book, boxing tutorial, or video tutorials. Then go on to practice. Once mastered technique, it needs regular but short training.

Step Three: Work on your rhythm, speed, timing, and percussion technique

To do this, exercise on a heavy bag at least 2-3 times a week – this will help build skills with time. Work in rounds, for 2-3 minutes, with a total training duration of 10-15 rounds. Before working on the bag, carefully consider your combinations, do not hit it just anyhow. This will help you grow in boxing.

Step Four: Sparring Partner is REQUIRED!

From time to time, you just need to spar, and it will be better if the level of the partner is higher than yours. It is much better if it is an experienced, confident boxer who will not allow any injuries. For greater security, it is better to invite a third person as an observer of the time and progress of the sparring.

Step Five: Cardio training is also important

Include cardiovascular strengthening exercises in your weekly plan. Despite the fact that you will not be directly involved in training the blows, these loads will allow you to train more effectively in the future. At the same time, there are great exercises that are close to the load you need – like shadow boxing, jumping rope, running, etc. Remember, the battle is not won in the ring, it is won in the training!

Good luck!
